A walk-in grocery store in Rīga

Same shop, -30% off.

Every week, Latvian shops and producers pull tonnes of good food off sale — wrong shape, old label, short date. An AI sorts that surplus overnight; we put it on real shelves, in a real shop, cheap.

How? We recover food that's unsold, short-dated, or slightly off-spec — never spoiled — instead of paying full price for it.

Rejected for:

Six real lots on the shelf this week. None of it is off. All of it was refused.

    * In the EU, fresh produce is graded “Extra”, “Class I” or “Class II” against Regulation (EU) 543/2011 — size, colour and “freedom from abnormal curvature”. Class II is perfectly edible and routinely goes unsold. Figures and lots on this page are illustrative.

Typical Rīga 2024 prices, for illustration. The point isn’t the exact count — it’s that the money is real, and it was going in the bin.

      Plan it for me

Give us the budget and the table. We’ll pick a set of recipes from today’s shelf that feeds it, list the dishes and the exact shopping list, and show the gap if the budget won’t stretch.

      The pipeline

      Everyone’s surplus, sorted by machine.

Live intake · 38 stores connected · parcels move to Rescue as each reject list updates.

Supermarkets already file a rejected-goods list every day — for audit, for write-off, for insurance. We plug into those feeds. A model reads every line, scores how sellable it is against our own health-and-hygiene rules, and routes it. People spot-check; the machine does the first pass on all of it.

Concept figures. “Sky&More” and “Your Neighbour Grocery” stand in for the long tail of small chains and corner shops that a manual buyer could never work through.

      1. Ingest

We read each partner’s daily reject list straight from their system: product, quantity, stated reason, batch, best-before, and the cold-storage temperature log.

        Live feeds: 38

      2. AI triage

A model scores every line for sellability — shelf-life left, why it was pulled, storage history, recall status — and sorts roughly 1,900 lines a day in minutes.

        Avg score: 7.4 / 10

      3. Our standards

Then the hard rules: cold chain never broken, a safe date margin, packaging intact, allergens labelled, nothing under recall.

        Pass rate: 71%

→ Fails go to compost, animal feed, or back to the store.

      4. On the shelf

What passes is priced — about a third under retail, usually more — and listed on the shop tab, most of it within the hour.
